We Went Bananas, Now We Are Going Surfing!
Camp Kudzu South showed up July 13th to cheer on the Savannah Bananas vs the Macon Bacon for a 6-1 win! We were overjoyed to see all of our 50 baseball tickets were sold to support Camp Kudzu in our first local fundraiser in the Savannah Area. $6.00 of every ticket sale comes back to Camp Kudzu South to provide programming for our southern and coastal families.
The smiles on friends faces who haven’t seen each other since camp was heartwarming. The stories of their day trip to the beach and upcoming sleep overs reminded us we are doing great work here and continue to bridge those connections between kids and families living with type 1.
But don’t think our momentum is over just yet because we are riding the wave right into our next program!
There is still available space for our upcoming Hang 10! Surfing Program on Tybee Island August 24 for children and teens grades 3rd -12th.
Camp Kudzu South will be heading to the beach with Tybee Surf Lessons to bring you a glimpse into the positive attributes of surfing. The two-hour lesson will include 15 minutes of a ground lesson where we learn how to paddle out, pop up and ride back. The remainder of the time will be spent in the water practicing our new skills and enjoying the health and well-being benefits surfing has to offer.
Research is being done to support surfing’s therapeutic effects on an array of ailments. Surf therapy is becoming accepted as an alternative therapeutic therapy to help tackle mental health, depression, and anxiety all over the world.
With the support of the local Tybee Island Fire Department, Everyday Diabetes Center and our very enthusiastic volunteers, we know this day is going to be one to remember.
Families are encouraged to make a day out of this opportunity and stay at the beach before or after their session time. Medical volunteers will be on-site to help manage children’s diabetic needs during the program.
