Gainesville Family Gathering- November 7, 2020
Volunteer Family Support Group Leader Megan Vorhees invited Camp Kudzu to the group’s first “in person” meeting in over nine months. The perfect combination of fresh air, great weather, and a nearby playground set the stage for 11 families from the greater Gainesville Area to gather at Don Carter State Park in early November.
The day saw two sets of participants- a morning and an afternoon group that allowed for the park’s 25 person maximum per pavilion guideline to have adhered. Each family commandeered a picnic table as their base and then engaged in several camp-craziness-meets-diabetes-knowledge minutes to win it activities.
When the competition was completed, the call of the playground was strong, and the kids wandered off allowing for the adults to socialize and chat. This was a significant departure from the Facebook posts and messaging that the group had been engaging over the past months.
The group has plans to continue to stay connected to exchange ideas, questions, and build a community of T1D families in the area. Would you like information about the group and its activities? Please contact Megan Edge Vorhees at megan.edge@gmail.com.
